ADEKUNLE WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED AS ONE OF THE MOST CELEBRATED MILITARY COMMANDERS OF HIS GENERATION – PRESIDENT JONATHAN  

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan extends sincere commiserations to the family of  late Brigadier-General Benjamin Adekunle who passed away earlier today.

The message which was signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, the President joins the family and other Nigerians in mourning the very courageous soldier who achieved national fame during the Nigerian civil war for his gallant leadership of the 3rd Marine Commandoes in the successful effort to defend the unity and territorial integrity of the country. 

President Jonathan believes that General Adekunle’s civil war heroics, which made him easily one of the most celebrated military commanders of his generation, have ensured that he will always be honoured and remembered as a valiant soldier who served his fatherland  exceptionally well at a very trying time in its history.

As the Black Scorpion’s soul returns to the Almighty Creator, President Jonathan enjoins his family, friends, former military colleagues and all who mourn his passing to also give thanks to God for blessing the nation with fearless soldiers and patriots of his calibre who stand ready to lay down their lives for the peace, unity and progress of their country.

President Jonathan prays that God Almighty will  comfort the grieving family and associates of General Adekunle and grant his departed soul eternal rest.

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan yesterday approved the appointment of new chief executives for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC). Mr. Jonathan chose Joseph Thlama Dawha as the NNPC’s Group Managing Director, NNPC. Mr. Dawha, who is from Borno State to replace Andrew Yakubu. Woman Stabs Mother Of One To Death Over Chelsea/Athletico Bet

A woman stabbed her mother in the chest, at Old Ojo Road, Amuwo Odofin local government area of Lagos State, on Thursday over the soccer match between Athletico Madrid and Chelsea Football Club. The woman, identified simply as Funmilayo, was said to have made a bet that Athletico Madrid would defeat Chelsea while her neighbour, a man identified as Seun, said that the result would be the other way round. They agreed that Funmilayo bet with N1,000 against Seun’s N5, 000 and the duo agreed to respect their side of the bargain, as they gave the money to a woman identified as Anna. Investigations revealed that immediately the match ended in the night, an excited Funmilayo ran to Anna, demanding  the money. Meanwhile, Anna was said to have been shouting at Seun who had wrenched the money from her and left behind only N2, 000. An eyewitness, Martins disclosed that Seun demanded that Anna give N1000 to Funmilayo, because that was the amount she dropped for the betting.
