A Muslim academic has opened a gay-friendly mosque in South Africa, despite receiving death threats and fierce criticism from parts of the local Muslim community. Women will also be allowed to lead prayers at Taj Hargey's  "Open Mosque" in Cape Town. "We are opening the mosque for open-minded people, not closed-minded people," Mr Hargey told the BBC. The International Criminal Court (ICC) has summoned Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta to appear before the tribunal on 8 October. Judges want to question him over claims that his government has withheld documents requested by prosecutors preparing his crimes against humanity trial. The trial has already been delayed several times. Mr Kenyatta denies organizing ethnic massacres after elections in 2007. Some 1,200 people were killed and 600,000 driven from their homes. Two weeks ago, prosecutors asked for the case against him to be adjourned indefinitely, saying they did not have enough evidence because of obstruction by the Kenyan government. President Kenyatta has repeatedly argued he needs to remain in Kenya to fight militants from the al-Shabab group and take care of state affairs. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kumuyi, who was in Osun for a crusade, urged Nigerians to vote for only politicians who can deliver the dividends of democracy.   ``As a pastor, I am not expected to be a party man, but I pray that whoever will get us to where all of us as a nation dream of, God will give us the wisdom to appoint such an individual,”  According to him, in spite of the myriad of challenges facing the country, God is still interested in Nigeria, adding that the problems would be surmounted. He said that the crusade by the church was to pray for solutions to some of the problems facing the country. Kumuyi said that what affects an individual, affects th

PROF. SOYINKA FIRES AT PRESIDENT JONATHAN.

Below are excerpts from Professor Wole Soyinka's letter to the President.  “I have no doubt about the Boko Haram sponsorship allegation against a former Governor of Borno State, Ali Mod u Sheriff, by an Australian negotiator, Stephen Davis. I am, therefore, compelled to warn that anything that Stephen Davis claims to have uncovered cannot be dismissed. It cannot be wished away by foul-mouthed abuse and cheap attempts to impugn his integrity — that is an absolute waste of time and effort. “it is certain he will also take many others down with him.” “Of the complicity of ex-Governor Sheriff in the parturition of Boko Haram, I have no doubt whatsoever, and I believe that the evidence is overwhelming. Femi Falana can safely assume that he has my full backing — and that of a number of civic organisations — if he is compelled to go ahead and invoke the legal recourses available to him to force Sheriff’s prosecution. “The evidence in possession of secu
