President Jonathan Fires GMD Of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, Appoints Replacement

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan yesterday approved the appointment of new chief executives for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC). Mr. Jonathan chose Joseph Thlama Dawha as the NNPC’s Group Managing Director, NNPC. Mr. Dawha, who is from Borno State to replace Andrew Yakubu. Dawha will oversee the body that plays the key role in Nigeria’s oil sector. 

Dawha is expected to retire from the NNPC in less than three months.

In addition, the president appointed Anthony Ugonna Muoneke as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Corporation; Ms Aisha Mata Abdurrahman as the NNPC’s Group Executive Director in charge of the commercial and investment portfolios; and Attahiru B. Yusuf as the Group Executive Director in the NNPC, with responsibility for business development.

News of Mr. Jonathan’s key appointments in the oil sector was contained in a press statement released in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, by presidential spokesman Reuben Abati.
