NBA demands justice over Fadipe’s murder

The Nigerian Bar Association has said that it would not stand by and watch one of its own, Kunle Fadipe, die in vain.

Fadipe, a human rights’ lawyer, was stabbed to death in his house at Ifako-Ijaiye on the night of July 4, 2014. His killer who was later apprehended by local security operatives was said to have laid siege in his compound before the attack. The man has since been handed over to the police.

While expressing concern over the prevailing insecurity in the country, the NBA said it is interested in the trial and prosecution of Fadipe’s killer.

This was made known in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Ikeja Branch of the NBA, Mr. Yinka Farounbi on Friday.

The statement read in part, “The Nigerian Bar Association (Ikeja Branch) hereby condemns the gruesome assassination of one of its prominent members, Kunle Fadipe Esq. on July 4, 2014 at his Ogba residence. This incident is a further confirmation of the state of insecurity in our nation.

“We therefore call on the relevant agencies and security operatives to heighten security measures in the country to ensure the safety and security of lives of the citizens of this country. “It is heartwarming that Mr. kunle Fadipe’s assailant was apprehended by local security agents. We commend the effort of the local security agents and wish to state that we are interested in the trial and prosecution of the case as we would not stand and watch our dear
colleague die in vain.”
